Fu Yi-Yao is a contemporary artist currently based in Japan, and the daughter of prominent painter and calligrapher Fu Bao-Shi. Yet this enviable artistic lineage can be deceptive, as Fu Yi-Yao faced many struggles to find her own path in art. However, she has remained resolute despite the difficulties along the process. As she remarks, “I know where light is when I see the sun”. This insistence to look on the bright side of life has been the consistent spirit of intrepidity on her artistic journey in life.
Ms. Fu Yi-Yao is the beloved daughter of Grand Master artist Fu Bao-Shi. She has been awarded various accolades, including the distinguished “China Light — the Dissemination of Chinese Culture Person of the Year Award”, and Japan’s highest art award, the prestigious “Ringa Art Encouragement Prize”. Ms. Fu was also invited to give televised lectures about ink-wash painting on several highly acclaimed television programs of Japanese TV broadcaster NHK. Possessing a nonchalant attitude to materialism and fame, Ms. Fu’s work is housed mainly in the most esteemed temples in Japan and museums around the world.
This is her first art exhibition in Taiwan, with wide-ranging collections of calligraphy, painting, and porcelain, including a host of artworks specially created for this event. These collections serve to illustrate the trajectory, and to exemplify the highlights of Ms. Fu’s illustrious artistic career. We are confident that the viewers will not only get a taste of the Fu family’s art, but also see how the sublime is mediated through the graceful and subtle touch of a female painter, and the cosmic vision in her art. We ardently invite you to partake in this exceptional cultural feast.
