Across Time and Space: The Art Exhibition of Fu Baoshi and Fu Yiyao’s Japanese Artwork
Fu Baoshi and Fu Yiyao Father-Daughter Joint Art Exhibition in Taiwan
Since 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the arts and culture sector, leading to the cancellation, postponement, and closure of numerous exhibitions and venues. To revitalize Taiwan’s arts scene and restart international cultural exchanges, many cultural institutions are actively seeking opportunities. This year, Japan’s Shinano Art Museum in Nagano Prefecture plans to host an art exhibition featuring the father-daughter duo of Fu Baoshi and Fu Yiyao, attracting numerous top art organizations from Europe, the United States, Japan, and China eager to participate in this rare international art exchange. Thanks to the remarkable achievements of the Mo Hai Lou International Art Research Institute in curating Asian ink wash art, it successfully stood out in the fierce competition and obtained the opportunity to collaborate with the Shinano Art Museum on the exhibition titled “Traversing Time and Space: The Japanese Art Exhibition of Fu Baoshi and Fu Yiyao.” This aims to promote Taiwan’s curatorial model and cultural traditions internationally, deepening cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Japan.
Before the exhibition opens in Japan, Mo Hai Lou will hold a special “Taiwan Art Exhibition of Fu Baoshi and Fu Yiyao” at its art appreciation museum, allowing Taiwanese audiences to appreciate precious works by the father-daughter duo without traveling abroad. Some exhibits will include previously unseen authentic works by Fu Baoshi. Additionally, two free lectures related to the Fu family’s art will be held during the exhibition period, with the artworks later moving to the Shinano Art Museum for an expanded display.
Fu Baoshi often advised Fu Yiyao with the saying, “Rich in the valleys of my heart, skilled in the brushwork of the ancients,” emphasizing the importance of aesthetic influence and spiritual refinement. Fu Yiyao embodies her father’s aesthetic philosophy in her creations, receiving positive acclaim. Mo Hai Lou hopes that this “Fu family heritage” will continue to thrive and transmit the essence of their art for future generations.
