Art Publication Auction Supports Students: Corporate Chairman Lends His Support

Reporter Qiu Hao-Tang / Tainan Report
Dr. Ye Guo-Shin, the first Chinese scholar to earn a Ph.D. in Art Authentication Methodology from London Metropolitan University in the UK, recently traveled south to Tainan to meet with art enthusiasts. His publication, Mo Hai Chun Qiu, was highly sought after during the event. Shen Shang-Bang, Vice Chairman of the Tai-I Electric Wire and Cable Group, purchased a signed copy, No. 111, for NT$220,000 (approximately USD $7,000), with proceeds going toward scholarships for Taiwanese students.
Recognizing the vibrant modern art market and the growing trend of treating antique and contemporary art as investment assets, Dr. Ye spent over a decade visiting museums in the U.S., U.K., Japan, China, and Taiwan. He collected extensive data and images to build a comprehensive art database, incorporating his doctoral research on the “Painting/Calligraphy Authenticity Evaluation Chart” as the structural framework for Mo Hai Chun Qiu. The book aims to introduce a scientific, logical, and systematic approach to understanding art and its authentication methods.
In support of Dr. Ye’s mission, Shen Shang-Bang purchased Mo Hai Chun Qiu for NT$220,000. A portion of the auction proceeds will be donated to underprivileged schools, as well as to the art-related departments of Taiwan University of the Arts and National Taiwan Normal University, to encourage young students in their artistic endeavors.
