Mo Hai Chun Qiu—Collection and Connoisseurship Research into Chinese Painting and Calligraphy is a monumental 720,000-word book by Dr. Ye Guo-Shin. Over the course of more than a decade, Dr. Ye personally visited renowned museums around the world to collect firsthand materials on paintings and calligraphy. He also interviewed artists, their disciples, and family members to acquire valuable primary sources. Using Western art methodologies as a theoretical foundation, Dr. Ye developed the unique “Painting/Calligraphy Authenticity Assessment Chart,” which forms the structure of the book, offering a scientific and logical approach to what is often seen as the enigmatic process of art authentication.

This groundbreaking work is Taiwan’s first comprehensive academic, systematic, and logical reference on the authentication of ancient and modern paintings and calligraphy. The book includes nearly 2,000 images sourced from museums worldwide, printed with the highest standards to replicate the appearance of original works. Additionally, anti-counterfeiting technology has been applied to prevent unauthorized reproduction of the text and images. To ensure the book’s longevity, its case is uniquely crafted from high-cost, sturdy wooden boards to protect against damage, deformation, and pests.

Dr. Ye Guo-Shin is the first Chinese scholar to earn a doctoral degree in “Art Authentication Studies” from the United Kingdom. He has served as a calligraphy and painting authentication instructor for public institutions, including the Forensic Science Division of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. For many years, he has authenticated artworks for collectors and auction houses worldwide. As an artist, appraiser, and auctioneer, Dr. Ye is also a consultant on calligraphy and painting for numerous international auction companies.

In addition to his expertise, Dr. Ye founded the Mo Hai Lou International Art Research Group and Asia’s first art authentication museum, which combines the functionality of an art library with a new hybrid model for art promotion and education. The institution emphasizes four core pillars: accessibility, professionalism, interaction, and education, contributing significantly to the field of art research and appreciation.
