《Ink Dance──An Exhibition of Festival Paintings by Fu Yi Yao》
This book delves into the creative journey of Chinese artist Fu Yiyao, focusing particularly on her artistic exploration of Japanese folk festivals through ink wash painting. Coming from an artistic family, with her father Fu Baoshi being a renowned painter, Fu Yiyao was influenced by her father’s work. However, throughout her studies and creative process, she gradually developed her own unique style, especially during her time in Japan, where she created works free from her father’s stylistic constraints.
The book showcases how Fu Yiyao integrates her father’s spirit and techniques while depicting Japanese folk festivals, thereby transcending the boundaries of traditional Chinese ink wash. Her ‘Folk Festival’ series, particularly works like Suwa Taisha Onbashira Festival and Nachikatsu Fire Festival, combines the dynamic nature of Japanese festivals with the subtlety of Chinese ink wash, skillfully capturing the movement and spirit of the celebrations. This highlights her artistic challenges and breakthroughs.
