Curated by Dr. Ye Guoshin, Executive Director of Mo Hai Lou International Art Research Institute, the “Legacy of the Great Way – Fu Baoshi and Fu Yiyao Art and Collection Exhibition” is now on display at the first exhibition hall of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall from now until November 6. This marks the first overseas joint exhibition of rare masterpieces by Fu Baoshi and his daughter, Fu Yiyao. A seminar featuring Fu Yiyao and expert appraiser Dr. Yeh Kuo-Hsin will also be held on November 2 at 3:00 p.m.
Curator Dr. Ye Guoshin stated that this exhibition not only showcases multiple classic works by Fu Yiyao but also features numerous original works from the Fu family’s collection, including rare pieces by Fu Baoshi. The exhibition emphasizes the unique artistic legacy passed down from father to daughter, aiming to allow visitors to experience the profound cultural heritage embedded in their work.
Fu Yiyao, who studied in Japan in the 1980s following in her father’s footsteps, has lived in Japan for over 40 years. Now a Japanese citizen of Chinese descent, her works possess a unique personal language and have been collected by many museums and prestigious temples, fully inheriting the Fu family’s art and spirit. Fu Yiyao primarily focuses on themes such as temple wall paintings, Japanese folk festivals, poetic art, and traditional landscapes. Her works are highly valued and collected by numerous shrines and sacred temples across Japan, with very few pieces circulating in the public domain. Many of her works depict World Cultural Heritage sites, such as the National Treasure Hall at Mount Hiei’s Enryaku-ji, the Sanjusangen-do in Kyoto, the Sanzen-in at Mount Ohara in Kyoto, Yokohama Enman-ji, and the Ryudo-in Temple in Nagano. Notable pieces include The Spread of Buddhism in the East, Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei, Tiantai Mountain Guoqing Temple, and The Four Seasons of Sanzen-in.
This exhibition also marks the first time that several national treasure-level works, which have never left Japan, are being brought to Taiwan. The exhibition includes a wide array of classic artistic creations, such as paintings, calligraphy, and ceramics.
